U.S. power companies generated a net49.92 billion kilowatt-hours of electrical energy in the week
ended May 30, up 6.8 pct from 46.74 billion a year earlier, the
Edison Electric Institute (EEI) said.
    In its weekly report on electric output, the electric
utility trade association said electric output in the week
ended May 23 was 49.86 billion kilowatt-hours.
    The EEI said power production in the 52 weeks ended May 30
was 2,578.41 billion kilowatt hours, up 2.7 pct from the
year-ago period.
    Electric output so far this year was 1072.97 billion
kilowatt hours, up 3.2 pct from 1039.25 billion last year, the
EEI said.
